OCTAVIA : Òc to intelligence, No to dependence
Team name:
ÒCTAVIA
Use of AI tools :
We used several AI tools as working partners throughout every stage of the project:
• Claude, Gemini, Perplexity — research, brainstorming, code support, communication, and image generation
• Grok — video generation
• Self Hosted LLM models for POC / Documentations
• Judicious use of models, small models for text generation and large models for advanced reasoning
These tools allowed us to (1) deliver a more polished project by saving development time, (2) communicate our ideas more clearly through reformulation, image/video generation, and translation, (3) focus on the substance by delegating repetitive low-value tasks, and (4) challenge our own thinking by confronting our ideas to several models.
External feedback & contributions :
André Aoun — Mentor (University of Toulouse) — Continuous mentoring, challenged our ideas and our vision, helped us run the project alongside a heavy academic schedule
Alain Goudey — Keynote speaker — Pushed us to clearly articulate what makes ÒCTAVIA an actual innovation; this question reshaped our final proposal
Saiph Savage — Keynote speaker — Her keynote on Human-Centered AI, strongly resonated with and reinforced our student-centered design philosophy
Bastien Guerry – Keynote speaker – Helped us realize the importance of open source, its various facets and benefits, as well as the risks that the rise of AI poses to this ecosystem.
All Phase 2 keynote speakers — Provided concepts and frameworks that either confirmed our direction or prompted productive course corrections
Other participants and commenters — Comments on our proposal (and our reading of others') helped us identify which aspects of our work needed to be brought forward
Initial contribution: OCTAVIA : Òc to intelligence, No to dependence
Final contribution:
Our final contribution is the result of substantial design, technical, and pedagogical work that does not fit cleanly into a single text field. We have therefore organized it as a set of focused, self-contained resources. Each link below points to one part of the work.
