What area does your use case primarily fall under?
Training / education / pedagogy
The AI use case you are working on
The rising enthusiasm about generative AI has become a real society subject : we’re constantly overwhelmed by news explaining whether or not our society is on a turning point. Besides the fact that this tool seems life-changing, the situation we landed on to this day is far from being ideal. That’s why we want to study some research on long-term cognitive effects, then suggest solutions to fully benefit from it, instead of partially suffering from its ease of use.
Why this use case matters
We notice that most AI users are students, who will be tomorrow’s world’s decision makers. We want to study AI’s use cases in the educational middle because we’re slowly finding out that immediate answers are poorly beneficial to youngsters, losing their will to learn actively. This bad habit directly modifies cerebral capacities, such as the plasticity : neurones' ability to reorganize and strengthen themselves. This lack of mindedness, of judgement, could weaken the global economy in decades, so as private relationships, in worst cases. Our goal is to find concrete ways of optimizing our efficiency in a learning process helped by this tool, while still building long-lasting knowledge. Youth’ use of AI could have a deep impact on its brain development, zombifying its critical thinking. It is therefore important to act, to fight against this dangerous form of laziness.
Your team's motivation and learning objectives
All of us found it engaging to take a look at research that analyses concrete impact on students’ personal education. Indeed, we saw this challenge as a great opportunity to discover studies and institutional fields new to us : as future engineers, our capacity to inform ourselves about other science fields, such as social sciences, is crucial. We’re also curious to reflect on applicable solutions within the layer of apprenticeship ; changing students' habits upon such a powerful tool is challenging !
