The AI use case you are working on
An AI Teacher platform that provides personalized learning in higher education. It helps students understand core concepts in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, and Arts through interactive explanations and creative problem-solving. Students and teachers are involved. AI intervenes by analyzing student performance, identifying weak areas, and delivering adaptive content, real-time doubt solving, and innovative learning suggestions.
Why this use case matters
This situation deserves attention because many students struggle with one-size-fits-all teaching, leading to gaps in understanding and low engagement. An AI Teacher addresses this by offering personalized, adaptive learning. However, challenges include over-reliance on AI, reduced human interaction, and data privacy concerns. It raises equity issues if access is unequal. Positively, it can improve learning outcomes, critical thinking, and creativity while supporting teachers. It can reshape student life by making learning more flexible and accessible, but must be used responsibly to avoid dependency.
Your team's motivation and learning objectives
We want to take part in this challenge to explore how AI can move beyond being just a tool and become a meaningful learning companion in education. Our goal is to better understand how personalized, adaptive systems can improve concept clarity, engagement, and creativity among students. We also want to question the balance between AI support and human teaching, especially regarding dependency and critical thinking. Through this process, we aim to transform traditional learning into a more interactive, inclusive, and student-centered experience while building practical skills in designing real-world AI solutions.
Your initial contribution
We propose the development of an AI Concept Mentor, an intelligent learning system designed to address the growing over-dependence of students on AI-generated answers by shifting the focus from output to understanding. Unlike conventional AI tools that prioritize speed and direct responses, this system is built on a guided learning model that actively engages the student in the learning process. It breaks down complex concepts into structured, simplified steps and uses a question-driven (Socratic) approach to stimulate critical thinking and self-reasoning. The mentor adapts dynamically to the learner’s level, gradually increasing conceptual depth and difficulty to ensure progressive learning. Instead of delivering instant solutions, it provides contextual hints, analogies, and step-by-step guidance, encouraging students to arrive at answers independently. Furthermore, the system incorporates a validation mechanism that assesses true conceptual understanding through application-based questions and real-world scenarios. By integrating AI into a structured educational framework, this solution redefines the role of AI from a passive answer provider to an active cognitive mentor, ultimately fostering deeper learning, improved retention, and the development of independent problem-solving skills.
